Geoinvestigate’s site strip and shallow trenching unexpectedly located a circular mine shaft perhaps dating back to the 1600s. Microdilling proved the shaft to be 28m deep and infilled with weak deposits. The shaft will be stabilised and secured at a later date by grouting and capping. The Coal Authority had no record of this mine entry.
