Geoinvestigate recently helped a former ironstone miner (one of the last ‘Red Men of Cumbria) obtain planning permission for his son for a new housing development with a coal mine shaft on his property. The shaft was capped in 2013 by ex-miners without involving statutory consultees the UK Coal Authority eventually getting recognition from them in 2022 for their expert capping works. Prior to Geoinvestigate’s intervention the CA refused to recognise either the accurately known position of the 86m deep shaft or its treatment though the works were supervised by a local ironstone mining expert and legend who in his long career has been both mine owner, manager mining and mine captain.
