Let Geoinvestigate quote for your next desk study, geotechnical, geo-environmental or borehole site investigation in Lancaster, Morecambe, Blackpool or Kendal. From Geoinvestigate’s North West office in Kendal our team of dedicated geoscientists provide expertise in the Geo-environmental, Geotechnical and Contaminated Land sectors helping architects, builders, land surveyors, structural engineers, insurers, project managers and private home owners to get the right solution no matter the size of their development or how complex the problems with the ground may be.
From our Kendal office in the North West, Geoinvestigate is looking to expand its contaminated land consultancy and site investigation services in the Lancaster, Morecambe, Kendal and Blackpool. From 3 UK bases Geoinvestigate provides, phase 1 desk studies, phase 2 borehole site investigations, contaminated land risk assessments, geotechnical, geo-environmental and drilling investigations across the country from Carlisle to Bristol and further afield.
Owing to a rapidly increasing workload, the arrival of another new drill rig and a recently opened site investigation office in Reading, Geoinvestigate is also aiming to strengthen, expand and spread its activities even further across the UK.
Ross Nicolson manager of Geoinvestigates North West borehole site investigation office in Kendal said we are particularly interested in in expanding our Northern operations from our Cumbria base into Lancaster, Morecambe, Kendal and Blackpool as local work in the North West is very important to us.
Ross said though we are active in Lancaster, Blackpool, Morecambe and Kendal we could do with increasing our work load in these areas which are still relatively close to home for us. As we regularly work as far as London and as far as the Isle of Wight anything within 2 hours travelling of Kendal we consider to be home ground.
Over the years the company has developed a very good knowledge of the environmental and geotechnical problems existing in the Lancaster, Blackpool, Morecambe and Kendal areas, the most notable of these of course being peat which occurs both in Blackpool and Morecambe Bay.
Ross remembers one particular job in Morecambe where a house built on several metres of soft sandy clay and peat had subsided by some 150mm. The floors had been built up over many years with timber battens and it was only after their removal that the full extent of the subsidence problem became apparent. Drilling with our Dando terrier tracked percussive windowless sampling mini-rig confirmed there was a firmish crust of some 1.30m thickness but unfortunately the foundations had pierced this and were bearing directly on the weaker sub-stratum.
Had the foundations been kept high within the crust as many other buildings in the area have it is possible that the damage would have been much less severe and perhaps even unnoticeable.
Interestingly, as an aside, while completing a reconnaissance/walkover inspection of the surrounding area to assess the frequency of similar damage to adjacent houses we found a historical blue plaque commemorating the birth place of Eric Morecambe or Morecambe & Wise fame and one of my dad’s favourite TV comedians. Amazing to think as a young lad Eric would have played football in the same streets we were now working in.
In addition to providing borehole site investigation services in the Morecambe Bay, Kendal, Blackpool and Lancaster areas, Geoinvestigate also provides services in the fields of geotechnical and geo-environmental consultancy, walk-over surveys, borehole drilling, site investigation, Phase 1 desk studies, Phase 2 site investigations, drilling and testing, landfill gas surveys and contaminated land investigations with full remediation.
Geoinvestigate would be pleased to quote for your next site investigation.
